East Jacksonville Neighborhood Resource Center Hosts Open House For Neighbors

FreshMinistries’ East Jacksonville Neighborhood Resource Center’s staff hosted tours of the facility, and, with the very generous support of Bono’s Barbeque, served barbeque sandwiches, coleslaw, baked beans, cookies and tea to more than 150 neighbors during its Open House Celebration on June 15th, 2007.

The East Jacksonville Neighborhood Resource Center, located on East 1st Street in the heart of one of Jacksonville’s poorest communities, directly connects individuals to social service, civic and non-profit agencies that can help them overcome their immediate crisis and better prepare them for their future by offering free family stregthening educational classes, adult literacy classes and access to the center’s computers to search for jobs and apply online for food stamps and other social services. “We are so thrilled to be up and running! This is such an incredible asset to the residents of East Jacksonville. There are so many wonderful organizations available to help our friends and neighbors in need, but, finding the right resource or service can be so overwhelming that people just give up and stop looking. Valerie, Sarah and I are going to change that by making it easier – less intimidating – for them to find the service best equipped to help them,” says Lula Brown, Director of the East Jacksonville Neighborhood Resource Center.

The East Jacksonville Neighborhood Resource Center is still in need of additional children’s books, educational videos, stuffed animals, pampers, pull-ups, educational games, school supplies and backpacks, mentors, tutors, volunteers and a couple of rocking chairs for the front porch.
