Business Incubator celebrates 4th Anniversary Beaver Street Enterprise Center, FreshMinistries’ core-city business incubator, celebrated its fourth anniversary by hosting the sold-out “Sell-Ebration” Sales & Marketing Symposium on June 26th and a Board of Director’s reception in honor of the dedication of the Michael Lee Bryant Board Room, held immediately following the June 27th Beaver Street Enterprise Center board of directors meeting. The “Sell-Ebration” Sales & Marketing Symposium presented 7 local sales and marketing leaders to the more than 80 small business owners and entrepreneurs in attendance. The morning began with energetic presentions by Al Bogocius of A & I Consulting Group, Mary Fisher of Mary Fisher Design, winner of the 2007 Women in Business Entrepreneur of the Year Award, Hester Group’s vice president of operations Gregory P. Bruce, and business coach Doug Wilder. Following a lunch donated by Costco, international sales consultant, Steve Waterhouse, former advertising director for a division of The Washington Post and retired U.S. Army captain Art Dwight, and Jaequeline Lawson, Creative Director of Cozzas LLC, shared additional insight into the work habits and mental preparation needed to achieve sales excellence. Wrapping up the 4th anniversay celebration, Beaver Street Enterprise Center’s board of directors formally renamed and dedicated their meeting room to the late Michael Bryant, FreshMinistries’ Executive Director for the Center for Urban Initiatives, who passed away last November. Bryant, through his tenancity and perseverance, was recognized for bringing together BSEC’s board of directors, securing the building construction funds and the startup operating funds for Beaver Street Enterprise Center, the state’s only core-city business incubator. Bryant’s portrait was unveild at the reception and a plaque in his honor was ceremoniously placed below the portrait.
The plaque reads: “Michael Lee Bryant January 8, 1944 – November 11, 2006 Bryant, Executive Director of FreshMinistries Center for Urban Initiatives from 1995 unitl his death in 2006, dedicated his life to social justice, economic development of core-city Jacksonville and helping empower those in need to improve their lives. Bryant’s accomplishments include the establishment of Beaver Street Enterprise Center and Jacksonville Hospitality Institute, restoration of the historic Klutho building on North Main Street and mentoring to hundreds of underprivileged youth in Jacksonville, Florida.” For information on how you can help us “Be The Change,” call 904.355.0000.
