FreshMinistries staff members qualified to teach financial literacy

Michelle Hughes, director of Communities Empowering Youth, and Beverly Toney, director of the 6-Point Community Initiative, both recently completed the "Money Smart Train-the-Trainer" program to become qualified for teaching financial literacy.

The training program, sponsored by Duval County Extension, University of Florida IFAS Extension and the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta in Jacksonville, covered topics such as banking, borrowing, checking, budgeting, paying yourself first, indentity theft, credit reports, loans and home ownership.

Hughes and Toney are adding the training to their aresenal of tools for helping Jacksonville core-city families. They will soon begin teaching financial literacy to residents through the East Jacksonville Neighborhood Resource Center and the Jacksonville Hospitality Institute. In fact, Toney will be adding financial literacy to JHI's Life Skills Training starting this week.

"Our goal is to provide the children and families we serve with the necessary financial tools needed to make better decisions in their lives," said Hughes.
