'Make Reading Your Choice' workshop a successLillie Caldwell, Parent Liason at the East Jacksonville Neighborhood Resource Center, reports:"The staff at the FreshMinistries East Jacksonville Neighborhood Resource Center wishes to share the good news with everyone regarding our Nova/School Choice workshop that was held on 05/21/09, called "Make Reading Your Choice." It was indeed a success, and we were very excited, because we knew that we were being observed by a study team from USF. It was a pleasure to have to add additional chairs to accommodate the overflow of guests. Our presenter, Denise Kirkland, Family Literacy Specialist with the Jacksonville Library, was a dynamic speaker. She held the attention of everyone as she explained that reading was the foundation for learning... ...Books for everyone were on display and some were even read to the audience. Parents, community members, educators, friends and staff left the workshop feeling well informed and motivated to share with others the importance of reading. Additionally, the Parent Liaisons informed those in attendance about the many school choice options that are available. School choice materials were provided and personal assistance was given as needed. We hope to see you all at our next workshop on June 18, 2009."           |
