FreshMinistries bringing accelerated job training to East Jacksonville FreshMinistries has forged a partnership with Florida Community College at Jacksonville (FCCJ) for a tailored welding training program that fits the needs of the East Jacksonville community. The program is designed to train underemployed or unemployed adults in an accelerated, 12-week class so they can quickly begin careers in the welding industry, bringing much needed income and stability to the Eastside neighborhood. The City of Jacksonville has provided funding for the course, allowing 25 people to take advantage of the accelerated course. Because the grant was given as scholarship, it will not need to be paid back by the students, who live in one of the most impoverished areas of Jacksonville. But the program is more than just job training. The goal is to make an impact on the community -- not just give away jobs. So not only are the students guaranteed employment at either Aegis or Atlantic Marine, FreshMinistries will be providing "life skills" training to the students. This training will include community service, interview tips, life planning, financial literacy and family strengthening workshops. Orientation for the welding program was on Thursday, June 15 at the East Jacksonville Neighborhood Resource Center (EJNRC) and brought in just over 25 people interested in the program. Two of the program's instructors and FreshMinistries representatives were present to give the prospective students an idea of what they will be learning. This unique program highlights FreshMinistries’ trusted and proven presence in the East Jacksonville 32206 community, allowing resources, programs and partners that were once absent or sub-par to reach this area of great need.It also serves as a reminder of FreshMinistries’ commitment to successful job training in the Eastside, which includes the Jacksonville Hospitality Institute (JHI), a free 9-week training program for life skills and jobs in the hospitality industry. |
