BSEC report from Executive Director Jackie PerryThe Fireworks are due to arrive July 4th but I feel like we've had a blast of a month during June! In lieu of our normal board of directors meeting, I hope you find the information below helpful in recapping a momentous month.Overall, our sixth year anniversary events were successful, which were inclusive of several major events including our Board of Directors Reception held on June 25. We completed and submitted three major grants to help with future funding and expansion and we highlighted three successful graduating companies. Fundraising, Grants and Opportunity BSEC had the opportunity to publically thank Bank of America for their $5,000 contribution during the June 26th Entreprenuerial Fair and Forum. Martha Barrett presented the check on behalf of the Bank of America Foundation. Additionally, BSEC received a $20,000 contribution from the Wachovia Foundation on June 30, 2009. The following grants which were due between June 26-29th, were completed and mailed on or before their due dates. Special thanks to Karen Lee, David Barber, Sandy Faraldo, and volunteer Alonza Anderson, for their consistent efforts and contributions. Earmark: $196,514 CDBG: $ 925,000 FEMA: $118,913 Incubation Rocks!Business incubation appears to be a "hot" initiative right now. We have been asked to be a part of the advisory committee with the "forming" incubator in St. Augustine. We will be providing technical assistance and partnership later this year to a new non-profit incubator; and we will also be host next week to a group from Amelia Island who are looking at an incubator startup.I'm a Graduate too!Lastly, the Executive Director formally graduated from from Hands on Jacksonville as a part of the Blueprint for Leadership class of 2009. We also had an opportunity to promote BSEC on cable channel 24 on the Hispanic Business channel with accompanying guests, Rose Conry, Employment Resources and Solutions and Caesar Matos, City of Jacksonville.          |
