Eastside community clean-up
Students from the Youth Summer Employment program, Accelerated Welding Training program participants and other Eastside residents came together for a community clean-up in their neighborhood Friday, July 31. The summer employment and welding training participants were there as part of their weekly enrichment during the duration of the programs.
The 47 clean-up participants gathered a total of 27 bags of trash in 2 1/2 hours.
Eastside Neighborhood Association members Dorian Baker and Michael Wicker organized and orchestrated the event, and COJ Clean It Up, Green It Up provided gloves, bags, pick-up sticks and volunteer vests.
"This shows how willingly and positively the community can come together for a good cause," said Beverly Toney, director of the 6-Point Community Initiative.
